In all my years of coaching clients to successful results for weight loss, strengthening, getting
out of pain, and much more—
I have found remarkable similarities to the advice I give clients and the advice many financial
advisors give their clients.
I have also noticed that many of the clients I work with do very well in most areas of their life—
career, family, personal finance, etc.. but have struggled to see that same level of success
when it comes to their health and fitness.
More often than not, the catalyst for clients that have achieved the greatest success with me is
not any physical changes I implemented into their training routine or diet—
It all starts with a mindset change.
I will often use personal finance as an example to help create this mindset change, because it
is an area that many clients have already had success with and they can easily make the
connections of how they need to implement similar strategies into their own personal health.
So with all that, I’ve created some universal truths that can help transform your mindset and
your results when it comes to your fitness—
These are the 4 rules of fitness and finance:
1) You can’t get rich quick!
Most people have learned to be skeptical of anyone who tells you there is a program that will
make you a millionaire overnight, with almost no effort or hard work.
Unfortunately, in the fitness space, people are still falling for fads and gimmicks that promise to
make you lose weight, build muscle, and feel amazing in as little as 20 minutes two times per
week! Believe me, if there was a secret that was that simple and easy, we would all be doing it.
2) The disciplined investor will always win in the long term.
Buy NFT’s! Buy this random crypto coin that is going to the moon! Don’t miss out on this
amazing opportunity!
There are many people who bought digital art NFTs for millions of dollars a few years ago that
are now worth just a few thousand. Meanwhile Warren Buffet is still investing in Coca Cola for
the past 50+ years and never loses money.
It is the same in fitness. There are many fad diets, workout programs, and potential
opportunities that will come up all the time.
The client who trains at a different gym every couple months looking for some magic formula—
typically looks and feels exactly the same as when they started that journey 5 years earlier.
While the client who is disciplined and sticks with training hard and lifting weights with a trainer
3 days/week is typically almost unrecognizable 5 years later in their physical and mental
transformation.3) You can lose it fast, if it’s not a priority.
If you make good decisions and continually invest on a regular basis, monitor those
investments, and stay on top of your portfolio. You will typically do well.
If you suddenly decide to stop investing and don’t pay attention to where your money is, you
could very quickly lose much, if not all, of what you’ve accumulated.
It’s the same when it comes to fitness. You have to be diligent. You have to continue to have
those inputs into yourself— strength training, eating healthy, getting good sleep, decreasing
stress levels..
If you stop making it a priority in your life, you can very easily lose all of the improvements in
your health you had made.
4) Compound interest is undefeated.
This is probably the most important principle. The investor who invests 1 million dollars one
time when they are 60 years old will never match the investor who invested $1000 per month
for 40 years from the time they were 20 years old.
At just 6% interest, the investor who utilized compound interest will have invested less than
half.. $480,000 and have almost double 1.9M, at the same age, 60 years old.
It is the same with fitness. If you work out really hard everyday for a month, or even a year…
your results will be nothing compared to the person who works out moderately hard 3x/week
for decades.
You have to make it a lifestyle. It has to be something that becomes part of your daily habits
and routines. When you do that, it is impossible to not see results.
